Full Moon in Aquarius

Sacred Rose Astrothecary Astrology Art for the Full Moon in Aquarius by Rori Wootan founder of Sacred Rose Apothecary - a giant pink and blue moon with a revolution fist below an Aquarius constellation

This full moon in Aquarius is actually feeling optimistic despite the dumpster fire that is the world right now (especially the United States). We are all going through our own personal transformation, and for most of us it has been intense AF. Jupiter is squaring this full moon, and although squares are usually difficult aspects, when Jupiter is involved, it actually acts to infuse optimism into the celestial influences it is squaring. Stay mindful - Jupiter can also lure us into overindulgence and escapism. What sorts of conversations can you engage in, with Spirit or with fellow humans, to dream up a better world, expressly in your microcosm, or in your local community? Jupiter is also in a supportive trine with Mars in Virgo - the sign of service - giving us the energy boost we need to feel empowered to take meaningful, focused action on the work that feels sacred. Is there an opportunity or not-far-off dream that has been dangling just out of your reach that you have been daring to take the leap towards? Now is the time to take that risk. If you fall, dust yourself off and try again. This full moon wants us to get real about our purpose within society. What role do we currently play? Is it aligned with our ideals, with our authentic self? Does it feel like you are using the gifts you came into this life with? Or is it maybe time to dust off your hidden strengths that have been pushed away, out of sight and out of mind into the dark recesses of your soul?

Venus has been retrograding in Leo, the sign opposite Aquarius. The shadow of Leo is vanity and self-absorption, but in its light it is unique, authentic, fearless, heart-led self-expression.  Leo is about expression of self for the sake of pleasure and creation - in Aquarius, we have our unique gifts being expressed through us for the sake of humanity, for the benefit of society as a whole. What are you bringing to the table? What do you WANT to or know you could be bringing to the table? Is there a disconnect? Venus retrograding in Leo is bringing our attention to our values, our relationships, and our erotic energy - which includes our creativity and what inside of us yearns to be expressed - a song, a painting, a house, a book, a business… look to the part of your chart that is occupied by Leo to see where in your life you are being activated by this transit. Venus is moving away from her Yod formation she has been making with Neptune and Pluto (I talked about this in the Cancer New Moon article). Neptune and Pluto will continue a sextile formation as Venus takes her retrograde journey - as Venus stations direct and comes back to the later degrees of Leo, she will again make a Yod formation with Pluto and Neptune, tying up these very deep karmic lessons around being in our hearts and in uncompromising authentic expressions of ourselves, unwavering in times of crisis, to be in faith that we have the strength to endure hard things. Our collective evolution depends on it.

Venus is in a trine with the North Node in Aries, a very auspicious event as Venus’ retrograde in Leo and the North Node’s move into Aries both mark new cycles. The nodes of the moon represent our growth and evolution, and the next 18 months will have us growing in the parts of our charts occupied by Aries, and shedding in matters of the house occupied by Libra. This emphasizes the themes around Venus’ retrograde - releasing ways of relating and relationships that are holding us back not only from being in authentic expression but also from evolving in our infinite spiral upward.

Pluto’s square to the nodes have been holding us close to the fire of transformation (this is also something I have discussed in the Cancer New Moon article as well as probably most of the lunar posts this year). On the day of the full moon, this aspect is almost exact, but the energy will not be dissipating from this moment. We are being not invited but forced to face our “demons” for lack of a better word. Hard lessons and reconciliations are in our face, and if we choose to deny their existence or our responsibility for them, we will surely be met with them again and again in different forms.

In the United States, (I know this is true elsewhere, but I can personally speak to where I live) we are experiencing a lot of violation and revocation of our basic human rights. There is building unrest, for good reason, and our toxic leadership is rearing its ugly head. Our government has been failing us, more and more blatantly so, and revolution and reform is inevitable. Climate change is accelerating at an alarming rate, faster than we expected, and although the earth is resilient, nothing is being done because the momentum feels too strong to overcome. Those in power clutch to their power, and the majority of us continue to give power away in hopeless abandon. We all must be brave, we must do the internal work, and acknowledge that we can create change even in small ways. How can we diminish our impact through the way we spend our money, the way we consume, and the way we work? This is the deep Venus in Leo, and the Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus work. We are addicted to immediate gratification, to single use plastics that make consumption convenient so that we can zoom through life at maximum productivity. Is this healthy for your body? For the earth? How can we change the way we move through life to be kinder to our bodies and more mindful about how our consumption and lifestyles impact the earth? THIS is the revolution we need.

The last aspect of note for this lunation chart is Mercury in Virgo opposing Saturn in Pisces. This aspect may reinforce deep introspection around our service in the world, what we believe in, and who we are linking arms with. It could bring up tough truths that are ultimately helpful to our growth and our way forward. Be discerning about who you exchange information and reveal vulnerabilities to. Now is a great time for talking to a spiritual mentor, therapist, or trusted ally about our challenges and aspirations.

This Full Moon is BIG, literally and figuratively - it is the first of 2 supermoons this month (our last full moon was also a supermoon, so we are in the meat of the supermoon sandwich - that is technical astrological jargon :)). Truths may be revealed that can rock our sense of selves and rattle the foundations we stand on. Remember to stay in your heart, stay rooted in the here and now, and resist the temptation to over-indulge or escape. Ramp up on your practices that keep you out of fearful monkey-mind. Rest, reflect, and release your most authentic self out into the wild.

Stay kind, stay weird, stay curious. Sending all the love this Full Moon.

I’ll be doing astrology readings the month of September to help in navigating and making sense of these turbulent times, so send me a message if you’d like to book a session or receive a written reading.
