Full Moon in Gemini

When the moon is full in Gemini, it can feel exciting, social, and inspiring. We’re dealing with some tricky astrology currently, so we may not be feeling the confidence to be seen or to put ourselves “out there.” This lunation offers us the opportunity to heal issues we may have related to expressing our truth. It won’t come easy, but if we stay aware of the mental chatter that keeps us small and actively clear and eliminate those beliefs, we have an opportunity for expanding our faith in ourselves. If we can slow down the speed at which we think and speak, and take the time to assess the judgments we make about our interactions and inner dialogues, we can work to repair mental processes and perspectives, and drastically upgrade our view on life and consequently our relationships with ourselves and others.

Gemini is quick, witty, and curious. Gemini rules the nervous system, the lungs, the shoulders, throat, and the hands. In its light, Gemini energy manifests as an insatiable appetite for knowledge, for acquiring new skills, and for connecting with the immediate world around you. We run the risk, with the Full Moon in Gemini, of overextending ourselves mentally and energetically, of over-taxing our nervous systems, causing us to become tense and exhausted. With Mars opposite this full moon and square Saturn, we add in the potential for anger and frustration towards ourselves or others, from ourselves or others. When you feel activated, see if taking several rounds of slow breaths, finding equal length inhales and exhales (I like to use a slow count of 4, but do what feels accessible) helps to calm down your nervous system.

Mars in Sagittarius opposite the Full Moon in Gemini

The Gemini-Sagittarius axis is all about learning, sharing information, and expanding our minds and worldviews. During the next two weeks, practice discernment around the knowledge you integrate into your belief systems. Sagittarius wants us to open our minds to different ways of thinking about and seeing the world. It’s important not to lock into one way of thinking and accepting that it is ok for many truths to exist. Mars in Sagittarius opposite the Gemini Full Moon can definitely bring about opportunities for passionate conversations that could get a little too heated. Be extra mindful of the ideas and thoughts that want to be expressed - the excitement and speed of Gemini can make us hasty with our words. Don’t hold back from expressing your truth, but know when and with who to engage. Notice the quality of the ideas you express - are they helpful, nurturing, expansive? Or are they contractive and harmful? Find yourself in conversations that inspire and pull away from those you don’t see being constructive. It’s ok to make people feel uncomfortable, but watch the way you challenge others, and also when you feel challenged by others.

Saturn T-Square to Moon and Sun/Mars

Saturn forming a T-Square to the Sun-Mars conjunction opposite Moon wants us to take responsibility for the way we show up and exercise compassion, to challenge the idea of duality and take away the “either-or” mindset and try on the “both-and” way of thinking. Focus on yourself, do your daily practices to reinforce your spiritual health so that you can approach otherwise jarring conversations with openness and understanding. Saturn can also bring fear into the equation, having us second guess if the current journey we’re on is worth it - if WE are worth it. We may feel thwarted in our endeavors, like things aren’t happening as quickly as we want them to, potentially igniting frustration and anger. Careful where you point that, and try not to take it personally when others direct theirs at you.

Mercury Square Neptune

Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, is currently traversing Sagittarius and is forming an exact square to Neptune in Pisces, making it extra pertinent that we be diligent in checking in with our minds to be sure we are not creating false stories, bolstering unnecessary dramas, or giving in to delusions. Don’t believe everything you think - just because you think something doesn’t make it true. Cross check, investigate, and assess your sources (including your brain). If you choose to isolate on this Full Moon, avoid diving into information that creates anxiety. Focus your energies on subject matter that makes you feel expansive. Use the Neptune-Mercury square in these expansive signs to play with truth and reality and challenge the threshold of what you currently believe is possible.

The energy of this lunation is powerful. We can use it to open and expand our minds, to become masters of our intellect, and to harness focused discipline to patiently go after our desires. We can use the energy to discover points of connection within our community, even where there is perceived divisiveness. We can use it to find the comic relief amongst the atrocities we witness on the daily. Consider your current boundaries you have with your information intake (like social media, news, family members, etc.). Balance your time with technology and get curious about what’s going on IRL around you. Go outside if you can, or designate some intentional time and space for you to be with your breath and quiet your thoughts. Detox your mind and become aware of the unseen. What is Spirit trying to transmit to and through you?

Venus, Shamanic Astrology and the Third Lunar Gate

From the perspective of shamanic astrology, Venus passed through the 3rd lunar gate on November 9th, which was signified by her conjunction to Moon (which occurred in Libra). This represents her descent journey into the underworld, as she gets closer to the horizon with each passing day. This is related to the myth of Inanna, and is symbolic of her pass through the 7 gates as she entered the underworld - at each gate she had to remove one of her pieces of clothing or accessories until she was stripped of all of her adornments. Venus passing through the third lunar gate was signified by her third conjunction with Moon (since her cazimi in Leo) in Libra. This astrological event symbolizes for us the clearing of the throat chakra - of removing and releasing masks or protections that keep us “safe,” that shields the expression of our true selves; we cannot take these amulets with us on our underworld journeys. As we are in this part of the Venus cycle, it reinforces the themes of this Gemini lunation. This time is extra potent for healing and clearing our throat chakras so we can be in aligned embodiment of our inherent nature. The next time Venus conjuncts the moon will be on December 9th, in the sign of Scorpio, and will signal Venus’ passing through the fourth gate, a time for clearing our heart charka.

Venus is almost conjunct and approaching the south node in Libra, which has us assessing our role we play in our alliances and closest relationships. The Gemini Full Moon is sextile to the south node and Venus, and trine the north node in Aries, helping us to fully embody what wants to be expressed and heal the trauma we have experienced around showing the truest parts of ourselves. We have been doing the work all year to release worn out, toxic ways of relating, and as Venus passes over the south node in the next week, we will have more opportunities to bring love and grace into every equation, even if it’s not being offered or reciprocated. Recognize when it’s time to bow out of dynamics that are going nowhere good.

Remember - your words are your magic. What have you been thinking and speaking into existence?

Stay kind, stay curious, and stay weird, my friends.
