Full Moon in Virgo

The Full Moon in Virgo is illuminating that which we may not want to see - what we may have been trying to escape from. What feels too big to hold right now? What is ready to be released? This full moon is healing, integrative, and visionary - the last two weeks of this lunation, which was initiated with the New Moon in Aquarius, may have felt disorienting. This Virgo Full Moon is offering us grounding energy and discernment to clear the vessel so there is room for your visions to be received and realized.

Chiron as Modern Ruler of Virgo, conjunct the North Node

In Modern Astrology, some consider Chiron as the ruler of Virgo. Virgo, in the chronological procession of the zodiac as a representation of the development of the person, represents crisis - a turning point in the hero’s journey, where we come up against a challenge and must do something in order to come out the other side. It is inevitable that we will be changed by such an event, and usually, in Virgo fashion, for the better. This resonates with the mythology of Chiron. Chiron was an immortal centaur who was an herbalist and teacher, who after being struck with a poisonous arrow by mistake chose to give up his immortality - the pain of the poison was too much to bear, and none of his remedies could heal the wound. I realize this metaphor to our human condition is quite morbid, in the sense that sometimes the pain of existence seems too much to continue on, but hear me out… Chiron made a conjunction to the North Node in Aries at the beginning of the week, which I have talked about for many moons as this aspect has been building for some time now, and will continue to be felt through eclipse season. This has been pulling our focus to our own painful wounds that we can’t seem to heal. This may have been manifesting as emotional, psycho-spiritual anguish and potentially as actual physical pain. Often we must come to terms with the fact that we cannot necessarily heal our wounds, no matter how much yoga we do, how long we meditate, how good we are at breathing, how often we go to therapy, or how many self-help books we read. Perhaps the healing is not in making the wounds and the memories of them disappear, or analyzing the sh*t out of them as if that would make them go away (I know that’s how my Virgo brain likes to think it’s how it will go…). And I’m not suggesting we make like Chiron and let Zeus throw us back into the heavens, from whence we came, but that we choose to become more human by showing ourselves the compassion we deserve, and hold ourselves in the way we felt others may have failed to hold us, so that we can feel whole regardless of the wounds, and live heart forward in brave vulnerability, trauma and all. We are moving through a long narrow threshold of healing right now, of facing the darkness within. We have been chipping away at this healing little by little, stone by stone, forming cracks in our hard protective shells so we can let the light in. We know it is time to change, to let go of the shame, the guilt, the not-enoughness, and fearlessly love ourselves exactly as we are.

With the Full Moon in Virgo serving as a moment of crisis, a turning point in our story, we can also consider the greater cycle that is culminating - the cycle that began with the New Moon in Virgo last September. What were you seeding back then? What has come to fruition since then? What do we want to continue to integrate as we complete this cycle over the next 6 months, and what will we compost to prepare fertile ground for the next? Virgo also is the sign associated with the mundane, everyday life, and ritual. What habits can you eliminate that are potentially robbing you of your precious energy? What rituals do you want to put in their place?

Mars and Venus conjunct in Aquarius

Leading up to this Full Moon, the energy may have felt heavy. Many of us are in grief, perhaps most of us, for one reason or another… whether it has to do with the macrocosm of the state of our country, the world, the climate, or by some challenging shifts within the microcosm of our personal life and/or our physical/emotional/spiritual selves. Mars and Venus made a conjunction on February  22nd, not long after they both made a visit with the Lord of the Underworld, the energy of which is reverberating within this full moon portal. The Mars/Venus conjunction I hope offered at least a moment of insight and inspiration, if not given you a little internal lift, into developing creative ways forward into the unfolding of who you want to be and the life you envision for yourself and your interconnected part within your community. Mars and Venus in Aquarius want to re-envision what it means to be in relationship. We are ready to release old ways of relating that give one person or entity power over another and create connections based on reciprocity and accountability. Mars and Venus in Aquarius want equity and healing for all. This could be relevant to the relationship you have with yourself, with your partner, with your community, and it undoubtedly is a fight we are currently fighting for all of us as a humanity. We are not all evolving at the same rate, and we all have our own karmas that we chose to live out in this lifetime, and we all serve a purpose within the collective journey of humanity. Stay in integrity within your own path, and do your best to show compassion and love for those who don’t quite see it yet… Love is greater than fear.

Full Moon opposite Mercury/Saturn Cazimi

This Full Moon is opposite Saturn and Mercury, both of which sit on either side of the Sun. Saturn moves slowly, and the Sun is moving towards Saturn, and Mercury is quick, and will catch up to the Sun when the Sun meets Saturn. The synchronistic rendezvous of these three planets will occur on February 28th, marking the beginning of new cycles - this is the first time the Sun and Saturn have come together in Pisces in about 30 years. The Full Moon is preparing us for this conjunction, by offering us a moment of discernment and clarity, to come to terms with what must be left behind. Virgo wants to go into the deep, dark parts of our internal closets to examine and sort through the things that we never look at, that may have been forgotten or neglected, and get rid of those things that no longer bring us joy. You could say the Virgo Full Moon is the time where we begin our Spring Cleaning (in the northern hemisphere) and wake up our own internal energy to prepare our metaphorical soil for sowing seeds. Mercury, Sun, and Saturn coming together in Pisces marks a moment where we can envision what we want to devote ourselves to that feels integrous and in alignment with who we truly are, and who we came here to be. It’s a moment where we can ground our loftiest of visions into reality, as we use the energy of the Full Moon to release what must be cleared away so we can seed these visions. It takes intentional action to make our dreams manifest, and Saturn is offering us the discipline to make it happen.
