New Moon in Gemini

Sacred Rose Apothecary astrology art two faced head with flowers growing out of the head against space with rainbows, the constellation gemini, and the gender non-binary symbol

The moon represents our emotions and our subconscious. Gemini is the inquisitive sign, the forever student, the messenger, story teller, trickster, the jack of all trades, the shape shifter. When the moon is in Gemini, it takes on these qualities - our mind jumps around from idea to idea. It can certainly be overwhelming at times, and also exciting. If we can stay rooted in our body and allow the movement to take us on a magical ride of insights, we may find some treasure along the way.

This New Moon arrives on the same day that Saturn turns retrograde, in the sign of Pisces. Here in Colorado, Saturn is rising at the time of the New Moon, which puts our focus, our psychospiritual gaze upon this Great Teacher (if you are not in Colorado, this does not negate Saturn’s importance for your experience. In your local community, his presence could be manifesting in a different way, but just as important none-the-less. Just listen and observe). Saturn in Pisces has us getting disciplined in our spiritual practices, and also acknowledging that religious dogmas may not be serving us (hint: they’re not). We all have a different perspective, we all see a different horizon, a different view of eternity, of reality… we are all seeking something different, and simultaneously the same thing, and there are infinite paths to “Rome.” What if we allowed everyone their own view? Their own perspective? What if we were in awe of the multitudinous viewpoints that exist instead of in anger and resentment? What if we stripped away the fear, the rage, and released our grips on my-way-or-the-highway mentality. Gemini is non-binary, in all the ways, and Pisces recognizes that when all is said and done, we’re all one in this cosmic soup. Saturn retrograde in Pisces is guiding you inward, to find the God within. What stands between you and your Divinity? How can you connect with this part of your Self daily, and protect this sacred connection? Create a container for your spiritual practices, and fortify it daily through ritual. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Make it work for you.

This New Moon is powerful, in my humble opinion. Neptune squaring the Sun and Moon puts even more emphasis on the significance of the Saturn station (since Neptune rules Pisces). The nature of the Moon in Gemini will have our minds swirling in analysis, but we mustn’t let the mind drive the ship. Neptune asks us to meet in the heart, and allow for Divine Inspiration to come through. Get into a state of trance, of disregard for past and future. Allow yourself to dream without restriction. Do not allow the confines of your current reality dictate where your imagination wants to go. This New Moon asks us to do the work to tend our inner garden. Weed out all of the negating thoughts, the “I-can’t’s” and the feelings, unconscious or conscious, of not being good enough, worthy enough, or that there “isn’t enough for me.” Allow the life-affirming thoughts to flourish and bloom, to take over the garden of your mind. Repeat your deepest soul desires - Gemini is the Magician, and your words are your Magic… let what you want be so. Speak it into existence. You are worth it. And so it is…

Mercury is our ruling planet of this lunation, and they are in their home sign of Gemini. Mercury sits in an exact sextile to Venus, bringing in a quality of beauty and pleasure into all of our transmissions. This is a lovely time for creativity, reinforcing the Neptunian energy (representing Higher Love) pulling us into our hearts. Venus is also at her maximum brightness at this New Moon. In her journey as an evening star, she has been facilitating our collective healing of the feminine, and giving us the inspiration and drive to advocate for women’s rights, gender equality, and the safety of trans folks (as she initiated her Venus Star Point in Libra back in October). How lovely, as we continue to celebrate Pride Month and show our support for our queer friends and fam. I pray that Venus shining her brightest at this New Moon in Gemini will be a healing infusion for our collective worldview of and relationship to sexuality. The utilization of religious dogma to demonize sexuality and pleasure has been a catalyst and cause for so much psychological and physical harm because of the dark ways that this condemnation and consequential shame manifests. Chiron in a trine to Black Moon Lilith in fire signs also is calling on us to allow our shame and wounding around sexuality to be called to the surface to be healed. We all deserve to be in our fullest expressions, to be exactly who we authentically feel ourselves to be - and this is the energy of Venus in Leo - it is the courage and strength to express ourselves fully, to be flamboyantly and unapologetically our outrageous selves, without fear of being harmed physically or psychologically - instead with the expectation that we will be celebrated for our unique, creative presence. Venus is close to Mars in Leo, but she will not reach him - although Venus, under normal circumstances, moves faster than Mars and would catch up to him, Venus begins to slow down after this New Moon as she approaches her retrograde and her descent into the “underworld” - she will eventually meet the Sun in her retrograde journey, marking a new cycle, a Venus Star Point in Leo. I will speak more on this in a later post when we near the retrograde. I wanted to also point out that Venus will eventually meet Mars next February, in Aquarius, opposite Leo, and they will sit together close to Pluto - I believe that we have been initiated into a new way of relating, and I think the meeting of Venus and Mars in Aquarius with Pluto will be a healing, transformative threshold for relationships and the integration of the masculine and the feminine. Big upgrades are coming for us in 2024.

Saturn and Jupiter are approaching an exact sextile, but their energy is still felt on the day of the New Moon. This energy helps us to be strategic and discerning about our investments. This doesn’t just have to be about money - we are healing our psyche from capitalist tunnel vision. Uncouple monetary gain from the things that bring you pleasure, that fill your cup. Let the joy they bring you be enough. Jupiter in Taurus is unearthing the undeniable truth that our planet cannot endure our current economic system - how can we invest our energy in a more sustainable future? We must evolve. We must be in intentional, sacred relationship with our resources and support that the Earth unconditionally offers. What actions can we take now to be in health, in love, in abundance, as a local community, as well as a global community?

The solstice is right around the corner… save your actions for this initiatory energy. For now, stay in dreamtime and imagination.

Stay weird. Stay kind. And, in big Gemini fashion, stay curious!
