New Moon in Aquarius
Aquarius is the water bearer and represents renewal, realizations, awakening, and the acknowledgement of individuality and interconnectedness. Aquarius washes away the castles made of sand to clear the way for more sustainable structures. Serendipitously, this new moon is the closest the new moon has been in hundreds of years, and the closest it will be for hundreds more… The moon affects the movement of water on our planet - we are mostly water, and will undoubtedly feel the effects of this moon perhaps more profoundly than we ever have.
The new moon commences our Aquarius Cycle, we can only hope, with a bang. All of these retrogrades have felt like a bad dream… like those dreams where you abandon some important work for an adventure of distractions that you cannot get away from no matter how insistent you are…We’ve planted and nurtured the seeds, but the sprouts have yet to break the soil… Mars is still at 8 degrees, where they were at the last full moon, only now they’re direct, but not quite at full speed ahead… Mars will finally move into the 9th degree of Aquarius next week and assume business as usual. Mercury just went direct earlier this week, and Uranus, ruler of this New Moon, goes direct on the 22nd, making all planets in our solar system direct until April! Consider this new moon the moment we are permissioned to begin our forward movement - but the path forward may not be what we expect…
The Sabian Symbol for this new moon is “an unexpected thunderstorm” which IMO is quite fitting for Uranus changing directions. We can experience sudden genius, radical realizations, and unexpected twists of fate whenever Uranus makes significant aspects (or stations retrograde or direct). Give up the illusion of control and be open to Divine Creativity. Uranus has been and will continue to shake up the areas of your life related to your money, how you make money, what you deem worthy of spending your resources on (time, money, energy…). Uranus brings dramatic change for the sake of upleveling, but we may have to experience big losses first - life is spiralic, not linear. Often we see Uranus’ influence more on the collective level (student loan forgiveness, stock market changes, currency power shifts, better social services, which does affect all of us), but if Uranus is making significant aspects in your chart, you’ll likely feel this on a more personal level.
Saturn, traditional ruler of Aquarius, is also demanding our attention on the New Moon, so we may be rehashing out any lessons we were faced with during Mercury’s retrograde through Capricorn… What old mental patterns can we offer to the fire? What new mantras are we holding close to our hearts to create a psychological ecosystem that supports our personal evolution and consequently the integrity of all of our relations? We tend ourselves so that we can be in service to the greater unfolding of humanity. With Venus conjunct Saturn (exact on the 22nd), we may be feeling inhibited in our expressions, and perhaps challenging and reorganizing our hierarchy of priorities. If we want to be in Love (platonically, romantically…), we can’t always be right, or always have our way. Of course it is important to stay honest with yourself about your needs, but there is a time and a place for selflessness - as Brene Brown said, “don’t be a boundary bully.” It’s good to say “no” when you need to, but don’t let self-care practices keep you from participating in community. With Black Moon Lilith in Leo in exact opposition to the new moon, we have the opportunity to look at our shadows we may be unconsciously projecting on others. Where can we take more responsibility in our exchanges? If it seems that things are just “never going our way,” perhaps the remedy is moving into gratitude for what is.
On this new moon, you may want to take some time to assess all the networks of people in your life. What needs more tending? How are you showing up at work? In your friend groups? In your community? Where do you need to fortify your boundaries, and where do you need to be a little more permeable? Maybe there are some circles we are a part of that we need to distance ourselves from. Perhaps we need a change of scenery to surround ourselves with people who are more aligned with our values. In what instances are you lacking empathy, or ignoring the internal nudge to lend a helping hand when the opportunity arises? We are all in this together. We have all been through and continue to go through overwhelming adversity. Growth is painful, and we need to keep in mind that each person we come in contact with is likely suffering in some way. Reach out when you need help, and check in with the people in your life to make sure they’re ok. Vulnerability and tenderness are powerful salves to heal and strengthen the connections we wish to sustain.
Onward and Upward, my friends. Here’s to building the life we always imagined.
