New Moon in Pisces
The New Moon in Pisces is a time when the veil between our physical reality and the divine, the mysterious other-worldy realms, is very thin, making it a potent time for accessing information from our intuition, from the dream state, or from Spirit, guides, and/or other helpers. The New Moon in Pisces notoriously brings up unconscious fears to the surface, or perhaps even clears away the fog of delusions that have crept over our reality… what have you been putting your faith in, and does it have integrity? How do you know? What stories have you created around your experiences - what is actually True? Is it possible that you are denying the possibility of other perspectives? Consider your habits, addictions, routines… what steals your attention daily, distracting you from the quiet, humble nudges within trying to guide you back home to your Self… what practices or environments bring you back to the place where you can hear those messages more clearly? How can you make time and space to remove the chatter and external influences so that you can hear the messages that want to come through?
A couple of planets are at the anaretic degree during this lunation - Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in Pisces (Saturn will be in the anaretic degree of Aquarius on the 27th). Anaretic comes from the Greek word “anareta” which translates to destructive, killing, ill-fortuned. Destruction can be viewed as being less than desirable, but as we evolve we realize the importance of destruction in our continuous cycles and spirals of life. Sometimes we need a forest fire to burn away the old rotting wood, to prepare the soil to nourish the dormant seeds that have been patiently waiting beneath the surface, ready to burst with new life. The energy of the anaretic degree can feel like anxiousness or restlessness - think back to a time when you were completing something big and you were getting to the deadline - do you recall the feeling before completion? The big push for the finish line? There is a crescendo of energy that occurs when we are just about to birth something we have been gestating - that is the energy of the anaretic degree. It is destruction for the sake of renewal, as every completion brings forth the start of a new cycle.
Pluto has moved into the anaretic degree of Capricorn (as of February 11th)… because of the slow nature of Pluto’s movement, and the power of their influence, and the nature of Capricorn (dealing with structures and authority), this has been and will continue to be a challenging birthing process for us collectively - we know the last few years have been rough, and we are coming to the end of what has felt like a very trying cycle. We are breaking through to the other side, to Pluto in Aquarius, which is an energy none of us have felt in our lifetime. We are floating in a time of uncertainty, like the hanged man in the tarot, where we may feel like our fate is out of our hands, that the future is not up to us.
This Pisces New Moon is calling on us to dig deep, get still, and be patient - our power does not come from doing or reacting, but rather it comes from being and listening to our Inner Guidance, and taking intentional action accordingly. We must come to terms with the fact that it is our responsibility to be the change we want to see in the world, and that we are not powerless bystanders witnessing history - we have to be the authority in our own lives and choose to fully embody the person we incarnated to be, because the future depends on it. This can feel overwhelming at times - take each day one step at a time. We cannot wait for the world to magically change so that we can finally live the way we have been hoping. These times require courage - sometimes when we begin to listen to our Higher Guidance, we realize that we must act in a way that goes against what we believe society expects of us. I am not suggesting quitting your job, or abandoning life as you know it and retreating to a remote monastery (although that is very on-brand for Pisces) - we must learn to be in co-creation with Spirit while staying firmly rooted in the earth and participating in this physical reality. Enter Saturn…
Last week, the Sun made its yearly visit to Saturn, a time when we resolve to recommit to what we deem necessary to support and maintain our vitality, and to eliminate the things we have unconsciously committed to that is draining our life force. In Hindu philosophy, psychological impressions created from long term habitual action are called samskaras - they are not necessarily good or bad, but they are difficult to change. Saturn gives us the discipline and resolve we need to overcome our patterns, to polish and buff away these deep grooves to make way for new patterns and pathways. This is the final conjunction (of three) that the Sun made to Saturn in Aquarius, and it will be another 30 years before we experience this specific energy again. What has matured in the area of your life ruled by Aquarius over the last three years? Saturn in Aquarius is conjunct this New Moon, helping us to ground our visions into the collective dream that we have already been working to bring into reality. Saturn is also helping us to have the discernment to know the difference between the wisdom of our hearts and the ego’s agenda. On this New Moon, we can set deeper intentions for the work we want to commit to when Saturn enters Pisces on the day of the next Full Moon…
Venus is at the anaretic degree of Pisces at the moment of the New Moon, the very last degree of the entire Zodiac, and then within an hour ingresses into Aries… The week leading up to this New Moon, Venus made a conjunction to Neptune, which activated a powerful healing in our energetic hearts. This relayed a message to us of the power and the absolute necessity that living whole-heartedly is for our personal and collective future. This means letting the heart be louder than the mind, or the ego. We must also be in unconditional love, which means accepting people exactly where they are, and understanding that it is not our job to “save” anyone but ourselves. Venus is helping us to usher in this new cycle with the permission to unplug from all of our distractions and “responsibilities” and prioritize getting into our creative flow, especially if it is a space we have neglected for too long. The medicine of this moon is tapping into the dream space and giving our full presence to listening to and trusting our Higher Wisdom. As she changes signs and enters Aries, we will be infused with the inspiration we need to make our most integral, aligned desires manifest. She is moving closer to Jupiter, the traditional ruler of this lunation, in Aries** which will give us the extra boost of courage we need to follow our hearts full speed ahead.
Stay rooted in Love, friends. Every time fear creeps in, that is your indicator that the mind and ego are trying to take the wheel. Bring your focus back to the heart, drawing in love from the earth below and the infinite sky above.
**Living Sky Practice**
Jupiter and Venus have been very bright in the early evening sky, and will make their conjunction on March 1st - they can be seen in the west shortly after the Sun sets every night. Make a point to go out as often as you can after the Sun sets to see them together in the sky, and observe them as they get closer and closer to one another until they are next to each other the night of their conjunction. If you don’t have a “sky practice” yet, and don’t feel connected to the movements of the planets, this is an excellent time to begin one, as Jupiter and Venus’ movements are very obvious and visually stunning.
