Total Solar Eclipse in Aries

Total Solar Eclipse Sacred Rose Astrothecary image

Eclipses are kind of a miracle, if you think about it. The fact that the size of the moon in relation to the distance between earth and the moon and the moon and the sun is just right so that when the path of the moon lines up in just the right spot between the earth and the sun that it completely blocks the sun’s light (minus a glowing ring of fire). Crazy, right? If the moon was any smaller, or any further away from the sun, it wouldn’t be a thing. Historically, eclipses have been omens for the falling of kings, or the end of the world. Now we celebrate and spectate whenever given the chance. Although this eclipse probably won’t mean the immediate fall of the American Empire (I know, bummer, right?), any eclipse portal could change the course of your life. Eclipses are times where we may experience sudden endings and beginnings, if we need a little nudge to get us back on track of our soul path. Things we thought were important might be ripped away from us, and a new significant person may walk into our lives and change it forever…

In this total solar eclipse, we experience complete darkness as the moon perfectly obscures the light of the sun. The Sun represents our vitality, the essence of who we are… when the Sun is eclipsed by the moon, when the source of our warmth and light is interrupted by this phenomenon, it is an opportunity to be in the void of our beingness, stripped of identity. Who are you underneath all of your own ego attachments?

When I had nothing to lose, I had everything. When I stopped being who I am, I found myself. Paulo Coelho quote on Sacred Rose Astrothecary Total Solar Eclipse Article

Aries North Node Lunar Eclipse

As we have been journeying through our Aries/Libra nodal axis transit, we have been presented with experiences that have us examining and reevaluating the ways we show up in relationship and how we express our own individuality. The Full Moon in Libra two weeks ago illuminated to us ways in which we may be engaging in toxic ways of relating, including codependent and people-pleasing behavior. Selflessness is of course necessary for collaborations, but there is a balance that must be found, so that we are not abandoning ourselves for the sake of so-called harmony. This New Moon total eclipse in Aries on the North Node is an opportunity for us to heal deep wounds around our enough-ness, our sovereignty, the way we communicate our boundaries, and the way we express our authentic selves. We have to make a conscious decision to actually be here for it, alert, open, receptive, surrendering to the flow of feelings, really experiencing our emotions, allowing ourselves to let go of the past and opening to a future completely beyond our wildest dreams…

Chiron conjunct the Eclipse

As the Moon eclipses the Sun, so too does it eclipse Chiron. I’ve been speaking on Chiron pretty much at every lunation, as the Chiron North Node conjunction has been a big theme this year, and at the moment of the eclipse, Chiron is cazimi, or “in the heart of the sun.” The moment of the eclipse is a significant one for our healing journey, collectively and individually. We are in the process of facing our core wounds around our sense of self, accepting who we truly are, and integrating the parts of ourselves we may have been hiding away into our outward expressions of our identities. This could mean allowing your external environment to shift and change as you make space for your authentic self to be revealed. Healing is tricky, and the “woo” world is fraught with spiritual bypassing and superficial gestures of “light and love” which ultimately alienates people in their pain - if you are stuck in your wounding, you must just not be woke enough. You just need to breathe more, or microdose daily, or just, like, change your mindset. Chiron was an immortal centaur and a healer who couldn’t heal himself and ultimately chose mortality in order to escape the pain. Seems pretty morbid, but also so very relatable. Sometimes the pain of being a human or living with trauma feels overwhelming, too much to bear. How do we truly heal? What does it look like? It likely won’t mean a complete eradication of what wounded you in the first place, but more an acceptance of what is and forgiveness of what was, so you can move forward with an open heart. Healing is non-linear, so be patient with and kind to yourself as you do your work to process and integrate. The only way is through. I believe the best way to work with the Chiron eclipse is to bravely sit with the discomfort. Many of us have to stand in as the caretaker we never had and re-parent ourselves, letting ourselves know that it’s ok to be where we are, and comfort ourselves in the knowing that this won’t be forever…

Mercury Rx in Aries

The current Mercury retrograde in Aries as we are experiencing this extremely potent eclipse in the same sign is asking us to permission ourselves the time and space to let our minds and bodies be present to what the heart wants to say. If we don’t slow down, we might be forced to… when things go *awry* during a Mercury retrograde, instead of getting upset at this astrological weather, consider what is trying to get your attention. Mercury retrograde in Aries can make us impulsive and cutting with our words, so be conscious and careful with the ways in which you communicate. If you are experiencing anger, consider what is underneath the anger… Is it sadness? Fear? Are you trying to protect yourself from something? Work to clearly communicate what you’re feeling, especially with the people you love and trust. This is a great time to seek the help of a mentor or mental health professional to help you process the big feelings that are likely to be present during this transit.

Mars conjunct Saturn in Pisces

Mars is the ruling planet of this eclipse, as he is the ruling planet of Aries. Mars in Pisces is moving towards a conjunction with Saturn, which is exact on April 9th. Mars is not the most comfortable in Pisces, and he certainly doesn’t do well with restrictive Saturn. The Piscean energy, in my opinion, is a welcome antidote to the fiery, prickly nature of this eclipse signature. Mars in Pisces can be a bit distractible or foggy, but it can also be romantic and dreamy. It invites in compassion and acceptance, while helping us to visualize a world we would like to live in where we all really are equal. Saturn asks us to consider what it will take to get there… this seems like a daunting undertaking, but focus on what’s in front of you… take time to dream, trust passion, and follow your heart…

Uranus-Jupiter Conjunction in Taurus

The Uranus and Jupiter conjunction is just around the corner, within this eclipse portal. You may have a vision for yourself of what you want your life to look like, but it may not be quite clear yet how to make it manifest. Uranus brings sudden strokes of genius, insight from the Divine, and Jupiter helps us to expand, so the gift they bring in a conjunction is to give us the vision we need to push through to the next up-swing on our spiral upward. It may be inconceivable how we are going to make it over the threshold, but anything can change in an instant… not to say that at the exact moment of this conjunction that the world and everyone in it will be magically transformed… if this conjunction is impacting your chart in a significant way, it could mean that a whole new world will be opening up for you. On the collective level, I believe we will experience big changes that will affect all of us - the ways in which we engage with our resources, with money, and our shared values within our local communities and beyond into our global communities. Individually, people are no longer subscribing to the American dream and finding ways to reclaim their own energetic resources. We are saying “no thank you” to capitalism and taking back our time to feed ourselves, to be creative for the sake of creativity, to rest. Stay tuned into the wisdom of your body - heed its calls in an act of rebellion against the system.

On the eclipse, rest if you have the privilege to. If you have to work, be oh so gentle with yourself. Have the snacks and bevies on hand that nourish you and bring you joy. Carry a talisman of some sort that holds meaning for you as a reminder that you have the strength to be with what is. Whatever your obligations, take time at some point after the eclipse to journal about what came through, whether it's just body sensations you haven’t quite made sense of yet, or revelations about your purpose and place.

Stay kind. Stay curious. Stay weird.
